Elke Harper / About
There are plenty of photographers who sweat over making perfect prints—good density, dustless, color corrected images. I’ve spent countless hours in photo labs trying to make my photographs perfect, but I’ve come to realize that sometimes imperfections are actually perfect!
Polaroids jam up and the chemicals don’t always spread over the whole image. Holgas let in light leaks. Throw these images away because of these glitches? No way! Celebrate them. Show them the light of day. Display them. This portfolio is a collection of images that may be less than perfect, but are full of real life, meaning, and emotion. Enjoy!
Elke Harper has been photographing since 1982 when she held her mother’s polaroid camera for the first time. A native of Boston, MA—Elke now resides in Los Angeles, CA USA.
