landscape (1)

CATEGORY: Painting

My paintings are an emotive response to the landscape where the place, subject matter and moment in time is the starting point.

This is presented through the physical and gestural application of the paint. Through this language of marks the onlooker is invited to step into and become encompassed by the landscape as experienced by the artist.

The work hopes to honestly reflect the presence of the subject matter and bring to light those things that are vital, transient and fragile.

Yellow Flower

CATEGORY: Photography

There are plenty of photographers who sweat over making perfect prints—good density, dustless, color corrected images. I’ve spent countless hours in photo labs trying to make my photographs perfect, but I’ve come to realize that sometimes imperfections are actually perfect!

Polaroids jam up and the chemicals don’t always spread over the whole image. Holgas let in light leaks. Throw these images away because of these glitches? No way! Celebrate them. Show them the light of day. Display . . .

“In some ways my thinking process revolves around the idea that nature and the material world are far stranger when viewed in isolation or highlighted in an unusual way than anything that can be dreamed up by the imagination. Behind this are the underlying themes evident in most of my work, time, change, flux – essentially the mystery of existence.”

I am a Leicestershire based fine artist having graduated in Fine Art from DeMontfort University in 2007. I’ve been making stained glass for 16 years and now run my own business “Rainbow Glass Studios” based in the North of London. I graduated with a Fine Art degree in 1990 from Liverpool art college and had a brief career in the gallery world before realising it was never going to put food on the table. I taught myself stained glass from a book out of the local library and haven’t looked back since.

I began my career in photography towards the end of 1997, throwing myself in at the deep end as an in-house assistant at a large studio complex in North London.

Although the work was quite full-on it was a great place to see the workings of photo shoots and to learn about lighting and other equiptment first hand. It was also a great place to meet photographers some of whom I ended up working with after my time at the studio. These included Tom Sheehan, Hamish Brown, Mitch Ikeda, Ross . . .

Spatial Flatness #4

CATEGORY: Painting

I’m a Nottinghamshire based artist who predominantly works within the medium of paint. I’ve just recently graduated from a Fine Art degree at De Montfort University in Leicester.

My work deals with space and atmosphere. I create illusionary three dimensional spaces within the confines of a two dimensional canvas. The paintings offer contrasts, in terms of what the viewer sees and feels. The work plays on the viewer and creates a struggle as to what they consider to be actual space. The . . .

On its surface, the result of the process.
In its heart, the essence of the idea.

My work revolves around image based media: photography, film and video, digital art, installation, projections, printmaking.

In broad terms, there are two main veins of my artistic work: (1) the so-called ‘straight forward photography’ . . .

Watson, Eleanor

Porcelli jewellery

CATEGORY: Ceramics

From my beginnings in the performing arts and a career in dance, I have always been fascinated with movement, flow and pattern. My ceramics and glass reflect this by combining the figurative with texture and abstract design. I experiment with colour, glazes, oxides and enamels using multiple firings to create highly textured surfaces. Taking inspiration from the movement of nature, the sea, water, and the flow of landscapes, I create organic shapes and designs to build one-off pieces.

Paris 100kb

CATEGORY: Painting

Stewart Wilson is a UK Midlands based artist specialising in dramatic urban forms influenced by unusual or extreme lighting.

I work heavily in oils and my work often approaches impasto style, depth and intensity. I favour palette knives and fingers to gain the required texture and depth. In a world saturated with prints I often smile to myself whilst working, catching a glimpse of finger marks in the thick luscious paint.
