I began my career in photography towards the end of 1997, throwing myself in at the deep end as an in-house assistant at a large studio complex in North London.

Although the work was quite full-on it was a great place to see the workings of photo shoots and to learn about lighting and other equiptment first hand. It was also a great place to meet photographers some of whom I ended up working with after my time at the studio. These included Tom Sheehan, Hamish Brown, Mitch Ikeda, Ross Halfin and Scarlet Page.

There are plenty of photographers who sweat over making perfect prints—good density, dustless, color corrected images. I’ve spent countless hours in photo labs trying to make my photographs perfect, but I’ve come to realize that sometimes imperfections are actually perfect!

Polaroids jam up and the chemicals don’t always spread over the whole image. Holgas let in light leaks. Throw these images away because of these glitches? No way! Celebrate them. Show them the light of day. Display them. This portfolio is a collection of images that may be less than perfect, but are full of real life, meaning, and emotion. Enjoy!
